Friendship Star Sashing : My Cat Quilt, WIP

Sashing and cornerstones are used to separate blocks that blend into each other or are not big enough on their own to cover the area wanted.

This quilt is from a recovered set of applique blocks that came from an old wall hanging that I started but never got the chance to put up as we moved to Germany.  I cut into into blocks and then needed something to separate the blocks - hence the idea for the friendship sashing.  This can of course be used for any quilt so I decided to do a YouTube video on what sashing is and how to use a friendship star pattern.

The quilt now continues as a work in progress.
Now for the maths.  The cat blocks are cut to 4 1/2 inches square.  The sashing strips were from a cream fabric and cut into 2 1/2 inch strips then into 4 1/2 inch lengths.  The squares used for the star points are 2 1/2 inches square, all of them are colour and white - no florals.  The blocks are arranged in an 11 x 11 layout and have a border of the cream (again from a 2 1/2 inch strip) - waiting for the outside border to be added as well as the backing and batting to be purchased.  The quilting will also have to wait as my big machine is at the menders having had issues with the top tension.
